Twenty-five aviation experts from across Africa have started a six-month training programme in aviation security management systems in Kigali.
According to Tony Barigye, the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority communications officer, the training seeks to boost efficiency of the security systems on the continent to ensure safety in aviation industry.
The training at the Kigali International Airport is being conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in partnership with Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority.
Barigye said the training has attracted experts from eight African countries; Zimbabwe, Ghana, Gabon, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Rwanda. Of the 25 trainees, 10 are from Rwanda.
The participants will be trained in various aspects, including how to co-ordinate airport security management systems, as well as how to detect smugglers and terrorism acts.
Rwanda is hosting the training for the first time, and this is the first phase of the four-phase training, according to Barigye.
The trainees will be awarded with diplomas at the end of the training programme.
