Lynca Akacu was the Miss Rwanda 2015 second runner up. She is a model and hopes to enroll at university. But in the meantime, the 18-year-old is using her fame to start up some projects. She spoke to Society Magazine’s Donah Mbabazi about her crazy love for jeans and dressing comfortably.

How would you describe your dress sense?

I mostly dress according to how I feel on a particular day, but I can’t wear things that make me uncomfortable. For example, if I wear a dress and it’s not comfortable, I just take it off. I also like dressing elegantly, and the colour or length doesn’t matter much.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

I love jeans; sometimes I wear dresses but that is on special occasions. With my day-to-day activities, I prefer jeans because they are comfortable and great any time, as long as you accessorise well.

Where do you shop for clothes?

There are people who bring me clothes; if I need a pair of jeans I just call my vendor in Nyabugogo to bring them over. But otherwise, if I find a nice piece, I will buy it.I also shop when I’m in Kenya, Uganda or Burundi.

What do you consider when shopping for clothes?

I consider type, then colour; there are some colours that blend well with my skin tone.I’m a little light skinned so I go for dark colours like black or grey. My favourite colours are black and white and at the Miss Rwanda auditions, I wore a black and white outfit.

What is your favourite fashion accessory?

Shoes, especially high heels.They go with everything. There is something elegant about them. You can wear heels with a dress or with jeans and look gorgeous either way.

What’s your favourite clothing item on a guy?

I like a guy putting on a nice pair of shoes. I used to love Timberland boots but couldn’t wear them, so I just loved spotting guys wearing them.

What’s your favourite scent?

I have many but my top three are Narciso Rodriguez, Lover’s Dose and Black XS, which I wear often.

What is the most expensive fashion accessory that you own?

A watch; it was a gift from my mum from one of her trips to Belgium. Any fashion advice?

Fashion is all about looking nice and that depends on how you put things together. You need to dress according to the occasion. You can’t wear jeans for dinner with the President. Also, colour matters. How you play around with colour will determine your look;go for colours that match your skin tone.
