Rusizi-based Espoir shocked table leaders APR with a 1-0 win at home to open up the title race following AS Kigali’s 1-0 victory over Isonga FC in the National Football League yesterday.

The league leaders were reduced to 10 men after Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza was sent off as APR extended a winless campaign to four games in all competitions.

APR’s loss means that AS Kigali which now has 38 points on the league table is two points behind the reigning champions who have a game in hand.

In other games, Musanze defeated Sunrise 1-0 while Etincelles held Kiyovu to a goalless draw.

Meanwhile Rayon Sport who were docked off three points by Ferwafa after failing to clear former coach Raoul Shungu’s salary arrears are in action today against Gicumbi in Muhanga.

The blues are 16 points adrift of league leaders APR with nine games left in the National football league.

With the league trophy now out of reach and their chances in the Orange CAF confederations championship slim after losing 3-1 to Zamalek in the first leg, Rayon Sports has only the Peace Cup as the only realistic chance of winning silverware this season.
