Igitaramo preps in high gear

Preparations for the Rwanda traditional evening, commonly known as Igitaramo, are in final stages. The event will be held on March 27 at Uburanga Arts Center in Kimihurura.

Preparations for the Rwanda traditional evening, commonly known as Igitaramo, are in final stages. The event will be held on March 27 at Uburanga Arts Center in Kimihurura.

The event will among other things feature intore dances, poems, proverbs and traditional dance lessons.

Augustine Hakizimana the Uburanga Arts Center boss said that together with two colleagues, they came up with the event to promote Rwandan culture.

"We want the youth and foreigners to know what our culture was in the olden days,” he told The New Times.

Hakizimana added that the Igitaramo was also a platform in which the king used to interact with his subjects back in the day.

Presentations will be done in Kinyarwanda, English and French.
