Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) has announced that they will help Rayon Sports reimburse former coach Raoul Shungu only if they present a payment guarantee.

According to a letter signed by the Fifa Disciplinary deputy secretary Alejandro Salmeron Garcia dated March 9, 2015 copied to both Rayon Sports and Ferwafa, the Blues have to pay $31,218 (Rwf21.9m) to Shungu by March 31 or face relegation to the second division.

The Congolese tactician used his own money to bring in players like Honore Kabongo, Bokota Labama, Jean Lomami and Jimmy Kidega and to buy balls, training kit and nets for the club during his second stint at the club in 2008.

According to the Ferwafa spokesperson Moussa Hakizimana, the Blues refused to present a payment guarantee to indicate that they would pay back the money if Ferwafa stepped in to help them settle the debt.

"We asked Rayon Sports to give us a payment guarantee which can even be a letter showing commitment that they would refund the money but they refused to do so,” narrated Hakizimana in an exclusive interview with Times Sport.

Hakizimana further explained that Ferwafa has been in touch with Shungu over this issue and requested him to travel to Goma from Brazzaville so that the transaction can be made once and for all with the travel costs catered for by Ferwafa.

However, Shungu turned down the offer indicating that he is very busy with work commitments and cannot make it to Goma where Ferwafa officials were hoping to meet with him to settle the debt.

Meanwhile, Ferwafa has deducted three points from Rayon Sports on the league table standings following an instruction from Fifa as the first punishment for failure to pay Shungu on time.

Fifa warned Ferwafa against the failure to take this action threatening to ban Rwanda from all its sanctioned events.

This paper made repeated calls to Rayon Sports secretary general and spokesperson Aimée Emmanuel Ndayisabye but his phone went unanswered.
