Ak47, the young brother of renowned musician Jose Chameleone, reportedly died in hospital where he was rushed after falling in the washrooms at De Javu bar in the Kampala suburb of Kabalagala.
Some reports suggest that he could have been assaulted before he collapsed and died in the rest rooms of the joint.
Several Rwandan singers and radio presenters have described AK47’s death as shocking and untimely.
Austin Tosh Luwano, known on stage as Uncle Austin, described Ak47 as a young, hardworking man, whose potential was just picking up.
"He was the youngest from the talented family and I always believed that he was the most talented. It was just a matter of time before he could outshine his big brothers because of his potential,” Uncle Austin said.
Singer Knowless Butera also expressed her shock after getting news of the budding singer’s death.
"It is a heartbreaking story for all of us and we send our condolences to the Mayanja family for the loss of their young, talented son. We join the family in mourning this untimely death,”
"His talent was immense and it is sad he passed on so young,” Knowless told The New Times, as she wished Ak47 to rest in peace.
Radio presenter and comedian Arthur Nkusi also described AK47 as a peaceful young man.
"He was talented and intelligent. I remember one time I hosted him and Chameleone on a show and he quietly sat in the corner. But every time he got on the microphone, you would see a different person,”
"He avoided scandals and always worked towards uniting his brothers,” the former Big Brother contestant recalled, adding that the Mayanja family will pull through this sad period.
"It is a pity that he is gone. We join hands with the Mayanja family in this difficult period of losing such a young and talented man,” added Platini Nemeye, the other half of Dream Boys.
According to Pius Rukabuza, commonly known as DJ Pius, of Two4Real, during his last visit to Rwanda, the late Ak47 had promised to drop his first album and was encouraged to find out that his songs were playing in Rwanda.
"He was one of the most humble Ugandan Artistes I’ve met. He was a darling to all his brothers because he never involved himself in their fights.
"I remember the last time he was here with Chameleone, he was telling us how he is going to drop his album soon and was so excited about his songs being played here, particularly Champion and Gal ah Bubble,” Pius adds.
Artiste Diana Teta also expressed her shock following the death of the dancehall singer which has shaken the showbiz fraternity in Uganda.
"I am terribly shocked. I didn’t know him personally but it is sad to lose someone with a great talent. It also makes us realise how short life can be. Our condolences to the bereaved family,” Teta said.
Radio presenter and MC Martin Kasirye Tino was also among those who joined in mourning the fallen singer, describing his death as a major loss to the entire East Africa.
