A total of 116 youths in Nyarugenge District have been equipped with business skills to support their entrepreneurship operations.

The training was organised by Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) in partnership with Club Rafiki and Kimisagara One Stop Youth Employment and Production Centre.

It was meant to build the capacity of participants to grow their businesses and provide employment opportunities in their communities.

Emmanuel Nzeyimana, the programme manager of DOT Rwanda, advised the youth to take advantage of the several opportunities around them to create jobs.

"Before attending such training, I was afraid of starting any business, but after self employment tips, I developed confidence and sought a bank loan of Rwf400,000 to start a project of selling airtime. Now I save at least Rwf70,000 monthly. I owe this to the training I received from DOT,” Bernard Tuyishime, one of the past graduates of the programme, said.

Some of the trainees make handcrafts products such as paper bags.

Claire Tuyishimire, who makes necklaces, said life has never been the same ever since she received the training.

She urged the youth, especially young girls, to work hard, saying success requires personal effort.

DOT Rwanda has offered training to more than 40, 000 youths and women across the country since 2010.
