When children join school, they acquire many things such as new friends, knowledge, and yes, nicknames. Students are usually given names by friends or schoolmates depending on their height, size, way of speaking, dress code and character. Unfortunately, most names are less than flattering hence affecting a student psychologically. A number of them lose confidence and self esteem when they are called by their new name. In our lead story this week, we explore the basis for nicknames, the lifelong effect they can have on a child and offer tips on how to get rid of a name you may not be happy to have.

We also visit Lycee de Kigali’s school garden to find out how it is benefiting the students and their families. They also express their thoughts about gonorrhea, which in their view, is no longer taken seriously. They give us tips on how to deal with the deadly sexually transmitted disease.
