The Mufti of Rwanda, Sheikh Salleh Harerimana, has called on Muslims to help the poor in the holy month of Ramadhan. He was addressing Muslims after a congregational prayer last week at Masjid al Madinah mosque in Kigali.
The Mufti encouraged the rich to assist the poor, saying that even the Quran says that the rich have to look for the poor and assist them especially during Ramadan.
"This is a command from God and it is written in the holy book,” he explained, adding, "I feel sad seeing needy and poor people gathered at the mosque seeking for assistance. You should always invite them when breaking the fast so that they can also enjoy with you.”
He went on to encourage Muslims to pray hard and repent during this month and always pray five times a day so that they can fulfil the commands of God in the Quran.
The Imam of the Al medina mosque, Sheikh Khalid Gatera, also encouraged Muslims to be kind and respect this month of Ramadhan.
He said that it is the most respected and important month in lslam because it is the one in which the Quran was revealed to Muhammad and, and when he was declared a prophet of God.
"You should always respond to God’s command, especially during this month by having a kind heart of helping the poor, needy and orphans; and you should always invite them to share with you during this month so that you can be rewarded by God,” advised Gatera.
