Kamonyi Pumas 16-10 U.R Grizzlies

Kamonyi Pumas overcame a determined University of Rwanda Grizzlies in a Southern Province rugby league encounter on a rain-soaked pitch in Kamonyi with kicker Emmanuel Hatangimana scoring 3 penalties and a conversion.

Pumas opened the score with a first half try by Valens Iyakaremye, and Hatangimana scored the conversion before he added a penalty to give them a 10-0 half time lead.

In the second half the Grizzlies responded with two tries by eighth-man Kevin Musonera and hooker Martin Kundakuvuga but missed the two subsequent conversions. However Grizzilies’ two tries were cancelled by Hatangimana.

Speaking to Times Sport after the game, Grizzlies captain Claude Mudaheranwa said, "We came here wanting to win this game, but injuries in the second half disorganised us and contributed to the penalties we conceded.”

Grizzlies, who defeated Muganga RFC in first round, have 3 points from two games and still have two games in hand which they need to win to progress safely to the semi-final playoffs.

Muhanga lead the three-team league with six points having beaten Pumas twice and their final game will be against Grizzilies. Pumas too, just like Grizzlies, have 3 points but have played a game more.

Meanwhile, with no league games in Kigali over the weekend, Thousand Hills U-14s played against their Remera Buffaloes counterparts at Gatenga ground, which the former won with four unanswered tries.
