Rwanda representatives at the ongoing African Clubs Championships for Men, APR Volleyball club won their last group game against Espoir of DR Congo on Thursday evening in Souse, Tunisia.
APR overwhelmed the Congolese league champions 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, and 25-16) in a match that lasted 65 minutes. APR finished 5th in the group with a 2-3 win-loss ratio behind Egypt’s Ahly, Algeria’s Borj Bouariri, GSU of Kenya and Espoir.
Today, APR will play for the 17-24 classification game against Alnahada of Sudan and if they win they will wait other winners between Atletico Clube of Cape Vert against Support Unit of Zimbabwe, Ugandan KAVC against Daim Hamad of Sudan and Armées Police of Cameroon vs Uganda’s Nemostars.
In the other group games, APR were beaten by Ahly, Bourj Bouaririj and GSU (25-15, 25-13, 25-19), (25-10, 25-13, and 25-14) and 25-18, 25-13, 21-25, 25-22 respectively but they beat Uganda’s Nemostars 25-19, 25-12, 11-25, 24-26, 15-12.
Etoile Sportive du Sahel, Esperance, Setif (Tunisia), Ahly, Zamalek and new comer Somoha (Egypt) Algeria’s Borj Bouaririj and Morocco’s Ittihad Tangier have qualified for the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, the local league continues today when Lycee de Nyanza host Kirehe in men’s category while the game between Umubano Blue Tigers and Rusumo High School has been postponed on request of the former because of unavailability of some of their key players.
In women category, Rwanda Revenue Authority face APR at Ecole Belge, Ruhango host St Aloys, IPRC-Kigali vist Lycee de Nyanza while St Joseph host Inyemeramihigo in Muhanga. On Sunday RRA host St Aloys at Ecole Belge and APR face-off with Ruhango at Amahoro indoor stadium.
