Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested two people in connection with theft and burglary cases in various suburbs of the City of Kigali.

The ongoing operation has led to the recovery of assorted electronic appliances, including television sets, computers and home theatres among others.

Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Celestin Twahirwa identified one of the suspects as Alloys Murenzi, 30, said to be heading the criminal ring.

The other suspect is a buyer, whose names were withheld to facilitate ongoing investigations.

The duo is currently detained at Kicukiro Police Station pending further investigations.

"The suspects were arrested on Wednesday after thorough investigations facilitated by members of the public through community policing. The suspects are cooperative in helping police to recover more stolen equipment,” CSP Twahirwa said.

He appealed to the public to take necessary precautions to prevent theft.

He also urged business operators to install CCTV cameras on their premises and employ night guards to ease police investigations in case of theft.

"Everyone who buys equipment should keep receipts, because in such cases, they can help to identify what belongs to them,” he advised.

Yesterday evening, some of the victims of theft turned up to identify their recovered gadgets at Kicukiro Police Station.

"Victims of theft are advised to check at Remera, Kicukiro, Muhima and Nyamirambo Police stations, where recovered electronics are kept,” Twahirwa said.

Police advised those who need to check for their stolen gadgets or provide information to facilitate ongoing investigations to call 0788311117 (Kicukiro), 0788311121 (Remera), 0788311122 (Muhima) and 0788311123 (Nyamirambo).
