Rwanda qualify on 6-1 goal aggregate

Rwanda’s U-17 team kept its hopes of qualifying for African youth championship due in Algeria; interact thanks to a 4-0 demolition of Sudan yesterday at the newly renovated Amahoro stadium.

The Junior Wasps who entered the game needing only a draw to reach the next round opened the flood gates on the 6th minute when SC Kiyovu marksman Ernest
Kwizera opened his account in a match were he netted a brace.

Rayon Sport’s Jamal Mwiseneza scored the second goal on 53rd minute while APR midfielder Hegman Ngoma netted a 64th minute goal and Kwizera completed the demolition on the79th minutes when he netted his second of the evening.

Kwizera who was the man of the match led the goal hunt while his partner in crime Christian Uwumukiza who picked up the accolade in the first leg putted the strings in the centre of the pack to amusement of the crowd that included Prime Minister Bernard Makuza.

Rwanda’s rock solid defence had a field day thanks to the uncomprising duo of skipper Amani Uwiringiyimana and Bonfils Twahirwa who kept the Sudanese strikers at bay.

Playing sleek football which is German born tactician Michael Weiss’s kind of game, the junior wasps gave the present football administrators a food for thought as there is need to embark on talent search  as it may be the only and lasting solution to improving the game of football in the country.

The Junior Wasps have qualified for the final round on a 6-1 goal aggregate. They had defeated Sudan 2-1 thanks to Christian Uwumukiza’s brace in first leg played in Khartoum a fortnight ago.

Rwanda’s opponent in the second round was yet to be known by press time but all in all the winner between Burkina Faso and Tunisia must go in an intensive preparation of welcoming the Junior Wasps at their home ground in the first leg due next month.
