Thirtyone-year-old Belinda Umurerwa worked with the then Orinfor now Rwanda Broadcasting Agency(RBA) for six years, both on Radio and Television as a news anchor.She left RBA last year in July to join UAP Insurance Rwanda as an executive assistant.

Umurerwa spoke to Society Magazine’s Donah Mbabazi about some of the things that rock her fashion world.

How would you describe your dress sense?

I love African attire. I’m very selective, especially with office wear; I prefer elegance when I’m at work. And this is so because I’m a mother and I always want to set an example.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

I love shoes very much. I have a spectacular passion for high heels. Actually, when I wear flat shoes, I fall sometimes, but I can wear heels from Monday to Sunday, morning to evening. I know every shop in town with great shoes; that’s how much I love them. I also love handbags; every time I go to my wardrobe and look at my bags and shoes I feel excited, I really love them.

Where do you shop for clothes?

In Kigali, I mostly shop in town, especially at Union Trade Centre (UTC). But I also shop when I travel, regardless of the destination.

What do you consider when shopping for clothes?

I consider the brand; I don’t mind so much about the fabric, though I mind the colour. I love "shouting” colours like red. I love it in a way that everything of mine is, or has, some red; in my living room everything is red from the carpet to the curtains.

What is your favourite fashion accessory?

I love watches; I can’t leave home without a watch. I don’t fancy bangles or necklaces, in fact, I never wear them. But when I travel, I always come back with a watch. That is how much I love them.

What’s your favourite clothing item on a guy?

A guy with nice shoes really grabs my attention. Guys with poor taste in shoes are a turn off for me. I love guys who are very smart.

What’s your favourite scent?

Anything nice really. But I mostly use Intuition by Estée Lauderor or Gucci perfumes. I kind of have many favourites.

What is the most expensive accessory that you own?

They are not fashion accessories but my eye glasses cost me Rwf350, 000.

Any fashion advice?

I have my own style; everyone has their own style so I can’t say a person should dress like this or that. I don’t mind what other people wear as long as they feel comfortable.
