Fashion: High heels look stylish but are life threatening

We all crave to appear tall. We are born short and you cannot fight it because it’s all about nature. But we try to fight against nature many times.

One reason why most women will die for high heeled shoes, despite health problems associated with them is that they make them look taller and stylish.

We wear high heeled shoes. We have passion for high heeled shoes.  There is a story about a former African president. Never mind about his identity.

He is relatively short and when he was still in the office, he used to go shopping in Sweden. Obviously, he was shopping high heeled shoes. The opposition in his country was making a lot of fun because of height!

The high heeled shoes were now making him taller! He would laugh. Too much of anything is always bad! If you wear high heels often, it can cause you some problems with time. The pointy-toed styles that are so often trendy can upset your feet.

Quite often, our sisters and mothers do this often without bearing in mind the health problems involved especially in the long run.

You see many young ladies in shops buying shoes. They pick the high heeled type. Who said that they should be banned? At least one woman says these shoes should be banned.

"They make women uncomfortable. When somebody is walking, they make her unstable and besides, they cause some health problems to us,” says Everest Kayitare, a Physiologist

Specialist

Wearing high heels causes lumbar (low-back) spine flattening and a posterior (backward) displacement of the head and thoracic (mid-back) spine.

"High heeled shoes make you lean forward and the body’s response to that is to decrease the forward curve of your lower back to help keep you in line. Poor alignment may lead to muscle overuse and back pain,” adds Kayitare.

Yet health experts say that high heeled shoes also cause illness such as, hammertoe, bunions and pinched nerves in the feet. Damaging the alluring of the spine code, and causing the lumber loreosis if worn for a long time.

Do you have to give up your high heels? Not entirely, according to experts.

Pregnant women are extremely discouraged from the trend, a doctor at King Fiscal hospital says. She says it causes hip flexor muscles located on the upper front part of your thighs, which may lead to severe pain and complications during birth.” Whatever your style maybe, it’s always important to be keen about your health to avoid long-team health complications.

"Call me weird but I can’t stand high-heels. I’m not that tall or short. But I am simply contented with my height,” says Justine Uwamwezi, 35, a teacher. However, Uwamwezi admits that heels are fashionable and improves one’s height.
