Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) president Vincent ‘De Gaulle’ Nzamwita believes that the U-15 football league championship will produce many players for the national teams.
Ferwafa is keen to use only nationals in the national football teams after Rwanda was banned from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for fielding a player with double identity.
The U-15 league (boys and girls) kicked off early this month in Gatsibo, Nyanza, Rubavu and Kicukiro with the aim of scouting talented players from the grassroots level who can be nurtured.
"We have many young talented players, who can play at a high level and the best way of unearthing such players is by developing our youth structures,” Nzamwita said.
A total of 73 teams that include 53 in the boys’ category and 21 in the girls’ fray are competing in the inaugural championship.
