APR men’s volleyball club has started training twice a day as they prepare for the upcoming African Clubs volleyball championship slated for March 5-17 in Sousse- Tunisia.
The league champions bolstered their team with new signings like right attacker Lawrence Yakan Guma who was released by Turkish side Palandoken Belediye, left attacker Barrack Rugira, who has re-joined the club after finishing High School and setter Helve Kagimbura who signed from INATEK.
"We have been training daily since the start of February but since yesterday (Tuesday) we will be training twice a day to increase on the fitness of the players. I am happy that the team is responding well in training,” APR coach Sammy Mulinge said.
The African Club volleyball Championship is regarded as one of the most competitive volleyball competitions in Africa with more than 16 elite teams taking part.
The champions of the thirteen-day tournament will represent Africa at the 2015 Men’s Club World Championship which will be held in Brazil from May 5 to 10.
Last year, champions National University of Rwanda failed to take part in the event due to financial constraints. Tunisia’s Esperance are the defending champions.
