One persondied on the spot and three others suffered severe injuries in an accident on Musanze-Kigali highway yesterday morning.

Police said the accident, that occurred at Kanyinya Sector, Nyarugenge District, involved a Toyota Prado, that was being driven by the deceased, Jean-Claude Nzarora, 31.

The vehicle had five occupants.

The identity of the injured could not be identified by press time but Police said they were taken to the Central University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (Chuk).

The body of the deceased was taken to Kacyiru Police Hospital.

Traffic Police spokesperson Emmanuel Kabanda said investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.

However, one of the survivors attributed the accident a brake failure.

"We were travelling from Musanze to Kigali. When we reached Kanyinya, the car suffered a brake failure. The driver was going to crash into one side of the road but in an attempt to avoid this, the vehicle veered off to the other side. That was when the car overturned. He (the driver) died on the spot,” said one of the survivors who only identified himself as David.
