Dear editor,
Through your paper, I would like to commend the South-African Embassy for initiating a new mode of fostering unity through goats in Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts as reported.

Giving former genocide criminals a chance to distribute the donated goats to survivors is a demonstration of a renewed relationship.

It is like former foes shaking hands after signing landmark cooperation agreements.

Basing on the South-African experience, it is clear that one needs to employ a number of avenues to mend relationships.

My advice is that the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, should also consider sports in their reconciliation efforts.

Sports are uniting factor in many ways. First, they draws people together.

And secondly the rules of the game dictate that people develop a sense of respect for each other.

Such an initiative should incorporate the different sports.

Especially the youth can shed off the bitter memories of the genocide when they are occupied that way.
