Editor,

Reference is made to Dr. Agnes Binagwaho’s article, "Beyond MDGs: Why we need to strengthen our institutions” (The New Times, February 18).

I thank the Minister for highlighting the achievements in the health sector. We are also patiently waiting to see the concerned ministries streamline the medical insurance scheme for public servants.

I am talking about RAMA; can we for instance add to the beneficiaries of the insurance, people like parents and may be other dependants? For example, I feel cheated that I contribute to the scheme a significantly big percentage of my salary. I am single and can take a year without visiting a hospital but my parents cannot benefit from such insurance. Kindly do something.

And with this particular article you dwell much on the health sector, yet MDGs go far beyond that. So what policies are being put in place or rather how are we strengthening our institutions to ensure that after 2015, our achievements are consolidated, hence the sustainability you are talking about?

Please place more efforts on electronics systems of premium payment instead of registers. There is no reason why people should pay their money to local leaders directly.

Let’s give people insurance account numbers; let them pay via mobile money or use other electronic means. Only those who cannot manage alternatives can be found.
