The presentation of letters of credence by Amb. Nkubito Manzi Bakuramutsa of Rwanda to President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea on October 17 marked an important moment in the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, as they celebrated 60 years of diplomatic ties, a statement from the Embassy indicates.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Office in the central district of Yongsan in Seoul. During the ceremony, Amb. Bakuramutsa conveyed warm greetings from President Paul Kagame and the people of Rwanda to President Yoon Suk Yeol. He also expressed the commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Rwanda and South Korea.

"This commitment reflects the shared desire of both nations to continue fostering a strong and mutually beneficial partnership,” reads part of the Embassy statement.

As noted, Amb Bakuramutsa acknowledged the remarkable progress made by South Korea, transforming it into a "Global Pivotal State."

"This achievement is notable, especially considering South Korea&039;s transition from being a recipient of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to becoming a provider of ODA. The global recognition of K-Culture further solidifies South Korea's standing on the world stage.”

The recent signing of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) in Busan in September is a testament to the growing economic and trade relations between Rwanda and South Korea. Such agreements facilitate economic cooperation and reduce tax-related barriers, encouraging investment and trade between the two countries.

Additionally, in August, Rwanda and South Korea signed two significant bilateral agreements in Kigali. The first agreement, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on "Political Consultations," aims to enhance political dialogue and cooperation between the two nations. This agreement underscores their commitment to deepening their political relations and working closely on various global issues.

The second agreement, the "Framework Arrangement on Economic Development Cooperation Fund," is a crucial framework for providing funding to critical infrastructure development projects. This underscores South Korea's commitment to supporting Rwanda's economic growth and development.
