Results for 2014 senior six national examinations were released earlier today indicating negligible changes in the rate of general performance.

A total of 45, 957 students sat the A-Level examinations.

Up to 46,236 students had been registered for the examinations, reflecting a sharp increase from 33,279 in the previous year.

This year, 40,957 students passed the examinations compared to 27, 329 in 2013 with the performance of girls growing by 1 per cent from the previous year’s performance (49 per cent up from 48 per cent), while boys’ performed dropped by the same margin, to 51 per cent.

Speaking after the release of the results at the Ministry of Education head offices in Kacyiru, Emmanuel Muvunyi, the deputy director-general for examinations at the Rwanda Education Board, said there was a decline in examination malpractices this time around, with only five cases reported compared to 39 in the previous year.

"The cases were minor incidents and did not involve any complex techniques,” Muvunyi said.

Once again, REB did not rank students, schools or districts.

The New REB director general, Janvier Gasana, said rankings were discarded to help prevent schools taking credit for students’ performance without having necessarily contributed much to the students’ performance.
