While in Kenya, he will participate in the 16th Ordinary Summit of East African Community (EAC), which brings together Heads of State of all five partner states. The summit will be held on Friday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi. According to a statement from the President’s office, the Heads of States summit will begin with the Commissioning Ceremony of the Olkaria 1 Geothermal Plant that is projected to reduce the cost of production of goods, lower the cost of living and decrease dependence on electricity from fuel generators. The Heads of State will discuss the progress of the community in key sectors including infrastructure, custom union, trade policies, the establishment of one Area Network for East Africa, the expansion of the jurisdiction of the East African Court of Justice as well as the roadmap to an EAC political federation, according to the statement. "South Sudan and Somalia’s application for admission into the EAC will also be reviewed,” the statement reads in part. During this summit, President Uhuru Kenyatta will hand over the EAC chairmanship to President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania.
