Burundi's Amical Sportif de Bujumbura won the 2015 Kayumba Memorial men’s volleyball title after defeating Kigali Volleyball Club by three sets to nil at GSOB in Huye District on Sunday.

KVC were the defending champions—they beat Rayon Sport in the last year’s final. Rwanda Revenue Authority won the women’s title for the second year running after defeating Ruhango Volleyball Club 3-1 in the final.

The students’ category which was introduced this year was won by Saint Joseph Kabgayi after beating Petit Semibaire Virgo Fidelis Karubanda 3-1. The host, Indatwa n’Inkesha were beaten in the semi-finals by Petiti Seminaire Virgo Fidelis Karubanda 3-1.

Amical overcame Lycée de Nyanza in semi-final 3-1. Amical’s coach Fleury Harerimana said the competition was "very helpful and all teams were good and challenging.”

"Our victory was a result of enough preparations and mainly the players’ bravery and persistence, the sheer determination to win,” he told Times Sport after the final game.

In total, the two-day tournament attracted 18 teams, with each category having six teams. Twenty teams were expected to participate but, Rayon Sports and APR did not show up. Another foreign team that participated was Uganda’s Vision Volleyball Club.

The annual tournament is organised by Groupe Scolaire Official de Butare (GSOB) (currently known as Indatwa n’Inkesha) in collaboration with the Rwanda Volleyball Federation and Ministry of Sports and Culture.

Priest Emmanuel Kayumba was born in October 1954 and passed away in February 2009. He was the headmaster of GSOB from 1995 until 2009. He was also a Commissioner in National Unity and Reconciliation Commission from 2003 to 2009.
