Assistant coach Sosthene Habimana will continue to lead Rayon Sports until the end of the season. The club president, Theogene Ntampaka has said.
Ntampaka told Times Sport yesterday in a phone interview that they are not in a rush to name a new head coach after the club sacked Congolese tactician Andy Mfutila two weeks ago.
"At the moment we don’t need a new coach because Habimana is doing a great job, we will continue to give him support, he deserves credit for the fantastic job he has done. We want him to continue until the end of the season,” Ntampaka revealed.
He added that the club management is under no pressure to bring in a new head coach and shall continue working with Habimana as interim head coach until the end of the season.
Since Habimana took over as interim coach, Rayon have won two games, one in the national league as well as against Cameroonian side Panthère Sportive du Nde in the first leg in the Orange Caf Confederation Cup on Saturday.
The all important away goal in the continental competition was scored by Leo Uwambajimana in the seventh minute of the first half after a well taken free kick from James Tubane.
Habimana’s side could have got a better score line but Captain Fuadi Ndayisenga missed a penalty in the first half.
Under Habimana, Rayon Sports have won seven games and lost one. He was in charge before Mfutila was appointed in November last year.
"I want Rayon Sports to start winning and it is possible. The spirit in camp is good but the fans need to get behind the team, it will help us move forward,” the former Rayon Sports player said.
