The newly-elected women representative on Rwanda Cricket Association executive has vowed to increase the number of female cricket players in the country.

"I want to see that the number of women cricketers increase,” Sonia Uwimana, the first woman representative since the Rwanda Cricket Association was formed in 2000 said.

She said that she will be moving to various schools, particularly girl’s schools to introduce, coach and talk about cricket as a game.

"Many girls out there think that cricket is a game for men not knowing that whatever a man can do, women can as well.”

The 25-year-old Kigali Angels bowler has played cricket since she was 16 years. She has represented Rwanda in various competitions like the U-19 Africa girls cricket tournament in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
