Rwanda national men’s football team (Amavubi) has dropped four places in the latest Fifa world rankings released yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland. The country dropped from January's 68th position to 72nd in the latest rankings.

The recent Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments influenced the February rankings despite the top ten remaining unchanged. Afcon hosts, Equatorial Guinea, recorded the best improvement from 118th to 49th.

Amavubi Stars played one international friendly match last month against Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam and were held to a 1-1 draw, a major factor why they didn’t improve or maintain the 68th spot they had since last December.

Algeria is still the top-ranked team in Africa and 18th globally despite being eliminated in the Afcon quarter-finals.

African champions Côte d’Ivoire moved from 28th to 20th position, while Afcon finalists Ghana moved from 37th to 25th on the world rankings and from fourth to third in Africa with Senegal completing the continental big four standing in the 36th position in World rankings.

Despite dropping four places, Rwanda is still the highest ranked team in the Cecafa region, Uganda is second, Ethiopia is 3rd while Tanzania and Sudan are 4th and 5th respectively.

Kenya is sixth while Burundi comes in 7th place.
