21 ITF-ranked players enter Kigali circuit

TWENTY ONE World ranked tennis players have been confirmed for the $10000 ITF/Future second leg which gets underway this weekend at Novotel courts in Kigali.

The players are led by Leonte Bogdan Victor from Romania who’s ranked 509th in ATP rankings. 

Other ITF ranked players who will spice up the Kigali edition include; Lithuanian’s Gvidas Sabeckis ranked 655, Egyptian Motaz Abou El Khair(779), Morocco’s Anas Fattar (805), Russian Alexei Filenkov (849), German Andre Begemann (867),Ireland’s Mohammed Mohazebnia (1113), Nigerian Emmanuel Sunday (1155), Australia’s Trkulja Nick (1266),Croatian pair of Simic Tibor (1308).

Vukov Stefano (1358), Nigeria’s Candy Idoko (1376), Russian Dmitry Sventitsky (1396), Egyptian Mohammed Safwat (1420), Israel’s Tomer Hodorov (1516), Portugal’s Marques Frederico (1516), Belgium pair of Dierckx Mario (1551) and Dierckx Mario (1717), Egyptian El Esawy Tarek (1717), great Britain’s Christopher Harfield (1813), and Vittorio Rubino ranked 1870 of Italy.

The opening ceremony and preliminary round are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday while the main action starts on Monday.

The ITF/Future in Kigali is set for September 15-20 with Kampala hosting the third and final leg from September 21-28.

According to the local tennis federation, the week-long tournament will cost an estimated Frw30 millions.

Bralirwa through their Heineken brand and Bank de Kigali are the event’s main sponsors. Netherlands’s Matwe Middelkoop won last year’s edition in Kigali.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe was scheduled to meet Lithuanian’s Gvidas Sabeckis yesterday in the third round after ejecting Ireland’s Mohammed Mohazebnia 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round of the ongoing first leg in Bujumbura on Wednesday.
