RWANDA’S Minister of Sports and Culture, Joseph Habineza has challenged the effectiveness of the National Olympic Committee (RNOC).
Habineza talked to Times Sport about the ineffectiveness of the local Olympic Committee, which he attributed to poor administration.
"RNOC is an independent institution with the responsibility of catering and developing all sports disciplines in their sector considering their four-year budget [drawn] from the International Olympic Committee.
"Unfortunately, it’s full of incompetent administrators who have no vision, commitment and passion for the development of the country’s sports,” Habineza blasted.
The blunt talking Minister suggested that for RNOC to be proficient, effective administrators must be put in office and professional managers whose vision is aimed at improving the image of sports should be given a chance to exercise their potentials.
When asked whether he recommends current RNOC boss Ignace Beraho for another term in office, Habineza said, "I think his two-year term is over according to the statute and I don’t think he can run again.”
"I expect more focused and competent people to come into office and start off where he has stopped,” Habineza stressed.
According to RNOC vice president [in-charge of federations] Claver Rwaka, new elections should be held three months after the Olympic Games.
