Seven-time league champions Rayon Sports posted their first league win since November last year after beating Musanze 2-0 on Sunday.  Strikers Isaac Muganza and Jerome Sina scored the goals for the Nyanza-based side, which was without skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga. It was Rayon Sports’ first win in 11 matches including seven in the league, two in the Ombudsman Cup and two in the Prudence tournament.

The winless streak started in November last year with the signing of Andy Mfitula as head coach—the Congolese tactician was subsequently sacked last week.

"Now what we need is to win many games, it’s the only way we are going to get our confidence back. Football is about confidence and that is what has been missing in our dressing room,” Rayon Sports interim head coach Sosthene Habimana told Times Sport on Monday.

The former Rayon Sports’ midfielder added, "I am happy that I have won my first game in charge but it is still a long way to go because, if you are coaching a team like Rayon Sports, you have to win many games, not just one.”

The win moved the seven-time league winners, Rayon Sports into third place with 25 points, ten behind leaders and archrivals APR FC, who won 1-0 against Etincelles in Rubavu on Sunday.

APR, who were stunned 1-0 by Musanze the previous weekend, scored through winger Jean Claude Iranzi.  The win keeps the army side on top of the table with 35 points, seven ahead of AS Kigali, who slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Marines on Saturday.

First win for Isonga

On Saturday, bottom side, Isonga FC also registered their first win of the season after beating Rusizi-based Espoir 1-0 at Kicukiro ground. Striker Danny Usengimana scored the lone goal in the first half.

"We had many problems in the team, the players were not happy but now they are. They are working hard on the training ground. This win is a big relief and I believe we can win more games than we will lose as we fight to avoid relegation,” said Isonga head coach Innocent Seninga.

Isonga remain bottom of the league with seven points, four points behind 13th-placed Etincelles.

 "We still have a lot of work to do but the most important thing for me is the commitment and performance from the players,” Seninga noted.

Another team that registered a win after a long winless run were SC Kiyovu, who beat Mukura 1-0 at Muhanga stadium on Saturday.

Burundian forward, Miamy Mbakiye scored the lone goal for Abdul Bizimana’s side that jumped two places from 10th to eighth with 20 points. Mbakiye is now the league’s joint-top scorer with 7 goals along with Jean Pierre Muhindo of Amagaju FC.
