Paul Muhawenawe scored 8 goals to help Police beat St Alloys in the final 34-23 to win this year’s Heroes’ Day handball tournament on Saturday at Kimisagara youth sports centre.

The 25-year-old scored 5 quick goals in the first 30 minutes of the game and added three more in the second period as Police added yet another silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Last season’s league top scorer, Gilbert Mutuyimana contributed with six goals for the league champions, who have now won all trophies on the local scene from last season.

On the way to the final, Police beat Nyakabanda 26-17 and APR 32-24 in the preliminaries.

Afterwards, Police coach, Antione Ntabanganyimana, said, "We want to make a repeat of last season and win everything. This is a good start to the year.”

Jean Nepo Niyishaka of St Alloys was named the tournament’s best player having scored 30 goals in three games.

Meanwhile, Apega Gahindiro defeated ES Mukingi 13-12 to lift the women’s title.
