Miss Nyarungenge 2012, Kate Bashabe has a passion for art and craft which inspired her to open Kabash House and her popular Deluxe Designer’s boutique. Kabash House located in Kimihurura deals in art and crafts, African fabric and jewellery.

The 24-year-old, also Miss MTN 2010, spoke to Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi about taking risks in fashion.

How would you describe your dress sense?

Kate Bashabe

I can be classy, casual or retro. I don’t like showing a lot of skin. I like bold colours and I mix patterns. I love anything with an African touch. I am a fashion risk taker.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

I’m in love with pants and high waist pencil skirts, especially the Kardashian collection.

Where do you shop for clothes?

I sometimes shop online but I mostly do my shopping whenever I travel.

What do you consider when shopping for clothes?

I always look out for colours and the quality of an outfit.

What is your favourite fashion accessory?

I will zero it down to watches and handbags.

What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?

I like a guy with good taste in clothes and perfume. His dress code should be corporate with a great fitting.

What’s your favourite scent?

I have two favourite perfumes; Love story by Chloé and Flora by Gucci.

What is the most expensive fashion accessory?

My Victoria Secret dress. It’s long and black. I wore it the day I launched my fashion boutique Deluxe.

Any fashion advice?

Define your own personal style and look confident. You don’t need to spend a fortune to look smart and classy.
