EASTERN PROVINCE

RWAMAGANA —  At least 51 residents of Gahengeri sector, in Rwamagana District last week received cows under the government’s poverty eradication programme of Ubudehe.

"The cows are donated to bail the poorest people out of poverty under Ubudehe programmes. Fifty one most vulnerable residents received the cows in this line,” Innocent Kwizera, the Sector Executive Secretary said.

Jubilating residents hailed the government for the donation.

"We start by identifying the most needy and vulnerable people. We prepare them to grow grass before they get the cows. One hundred residents have already received cows while about 1,000 were given goats under Ubudehe,” Kwizera said, noting that in the near future all residents will have benefited from the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Laurence Mukamwezi said that the beneficiaries will pass on the animals to fellow residents so that all vulnerable residents benefit.

Mukamwezi is the Executive Secretary of Runyinya Cell.

She noted that some residents who receive the animals fail to look after them properly posing a big challenge to the programme.

Another challenge she pointed out is that other residents fail to pay the little money charged in the program.
