Politicians, regulators playing catch-up

Editor,

Refer to Gitura Mwaura’s article, "Artificial Intelligence: Striking the right balance between caution and innovation” (The New Times, January 31).

It amazes me how politicians, regulators and other self-made social leaders are far, far behind scientists and engineers yet they yield most powers and resources.

The latter work in the future but politicians, regulators and social leaders are still stagnant in societal past or present. As scientists and engineers are busy trying to advance mankind through efforts such as making things that were impossible to achieve in the past, politicians, regulators and social leaders should learn to quickly catch up with the advancements and harness the same to advance society too.

The report by the World Economic Forum is just bogus; it simply reflects the politicians and businesses’ inability to quickly and easily adapt to changing times for fear of losing their powers, business and money accumulated in the past.
