APR yesterday defeated rivals Police 2-1 to win a two-day anti-HIV football tournament sponsored by Society for Family Health Rwanda (SFH).
The army side dominated the game but lacked a cutting edge in the first half after several wasted chances.
However midfielders Hegman Ngomirakiza and Jean Claude Iranzi scored a goal each in the second half to seal the team’s first trophy this season.
Police captain Jacques Tuyisenge pulled one back but it wasn’t enough as the match ended 2-1.
In the third place playoff, out of form Rayon Sport again lost 3-4 on penalties to AS Kigali after a 1-1 draw. AS Kigali took the lead through striker Isaiah Songa but midfielder Djahad Bizimana equalised for Rayon Sports.
For winning the tournament, APR were given a trophy and a cash prize of Rwf3 million while runners-up Police received medals and Rwf2 million with AS Kigali receiving Rwf1 million.
The tournament is part of SFH’s broader efforts in the fight against HIV/Aids, with view to making sure that all Rwandans have access to information and products they need to make wise decisions and lead healthy lives.
