Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) President Charles Haba has hinted that they are committed to spreading the sport to all parts of the country after receiving a grant of Rwf710m from the International Cricket Council (ICC). 

In a recent interview with Sunday Sport, Haba admitted that they still have a lot to do in their bid to have cricket played in every corner of Rwanda despite the fact that RCA has over the years been steadily aiming to gain recognition at the international level.

"We have so far been to five districts and these include Musanze, Kicukiro, Byumba, Huye and Rwamagana. Our aim is to be in all districts of the country and mostly in schools,” Haba said.

According to Haba, over 5000 children have been trained and many of them were able to even participate in inter-school cricket competitions.

Haba noted, "Now that we have started to get adequate (financial) support from the ICC, our work is going to become even easier to spread the sport.”

"We just received $100,000 (about Rwf 710m) from ICC, which is a big step towards achieving our goals and we shall use that money in the preparation of all the events for this year,” he added.

"We want to increase cricket awareness to 10,000 players throughout the country in the near future,” the RCA boss explained. Haba has been at the helm of the local cricket governing body since it’s founding in 2000.
