Defender Sifa Gloria Nibagwire can’t hold her excitement after her stoppage time equalizer saved the day for AS Kigali Women who traveled to Nzove Skol Stadium to earn a hard fought 1-1 draw against Rayon Sports Women on Saturday.

Rayon Sports WFC took an early lead in the 6th minute through striker Jeanine Mukandayisenga but the defending champions spoiled their party when Nibagwire headed home a 96th minute equalizer to ensure both teams share spoils.

"We had a tough first half, playing under pressure after conceding an early goal," Nibagwire said in a post-match interview.

"But we improved in the second half, creating several big chances. Unfortunately, we couldn't find the back of the net due to Rayon's exceptional defense. Thankfully, we managed to get a last-minute equalizer."

AS Kigali are arguably in their own league as they look to defend the league title they have won 13 times despite newly-promoted Rayon Sports WFC showing signs of giving the champions a hard time this season.

Commenting on the Citizens’ title credentials, Nibagwire said, "this season, we have a worthy challenger in Rayon Sports. We appreciate their establishment of a women's team, as it raises the level of the league and helps us improve."

Saturday’s draw left both teams tied on 4 points after two matches. Inyemera WFC lead the table with 6 points and are level on points with Bugesera WFC.
