Team Rwanda Cycling has improved from fifth to second position in Africa while Team Rwanda rider Valens Ndayisenga has jumped on place from sixth position to fifth in the lastest UCI ranking released on Tuesday.
As a result, Team Rwanda has improved the chances of competing in 2016 Olympic Games which will be held in Rio de Jenairo, Brazil.
At the end of last year, Rwanda was ranked fifth in Africa and after the tour of Egypt held this month, the country has improved three places with 14 points behind Morocco with 72 points while Eritrea and Algeria are on third and fourth position respectively with two points each.
By improving three places, Rwanda has passed Eritrea, Algeria and South Africa, who were above Jonathan Boyer’s team last year.
This came after the good performance in Tour of Egypt at the beginning of this year, where Valens Ndayisenga won the prologue.
The qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games will be based on performances in different cycling races on the continent, which UCI will use to award points.
