It was a moment of grief as hundreds of mourners bid their farewell to Young CK. The deceased rapper was laid to rest in a burial ceremony held on Sunday, October 15, at Rusororo Cemetery in Gasabo District.
Rapper Young CK, real name Calvin Kagahe Ngabo tragically passed away in Ottawa, Canada on September 17. He had made a name for himself in 2020, after the release of his debut hit song ‘Umugabo’, .
During a requiem mass held at Christus Remera Parish, different relatives shared testimonies of Kagahe’s personality, describing him as a kind, attentive, intelligent young man, who was always happy.

Jean-Louis Kagahe, father of the singer and songwriter, said that it was a day of tragedy but also a celebration of his life with gratitude.
"It saddens to lose such a good young healthy child who had a great future ahead but today I felt relieved because we are able to bid farewell as he rests after a whole month since he was gone,” he said.
The mother of the rapper comforted everyone saying that he is in a better and happier place with no pain or sorrow. She thanked everyone who had been by their side for the past month, the community of Rwandans, Burundians and the embassy of Rwanda in Canada.
She emphasized how Young CK&039;s friends in Canada were very supportive and loving to her.
"There are parents who are here that have children in Canada, I want to thank and tell you that your children were there for me like my own and as they asked me, if I will be like a parent to them,” said Young CK’s mother.
Jean Paul Ntazinda, uncle of the deceased rapper who lived with him in Canada took a moment to also clear the air on the cause of his death.
"Calvin was not sick at all nor did he have any problem. We even asked his close friends but none of them said he had any problem at all. When the news about his passing came a lot was said but we want to let you know that as his family we don’t know yet what caused his death, however the police is still investigating and the doctors took exams so we are waiting for the results,” he said.
Some of his family members who live in Canada were present at his funeral, however others were following the burial ceremony live. Public figures who attended the funeral were rappers Kivumbi King, Kenny K shot, Miss Heritage Rwanda 2015, Joannah Keza and Masamba Intore who is related to the late young rapper.
Born on January 23, 2000, in Nyamirambo, a suburb in Nyarugenge District, Kigali City, Young CK studied nursery school at Kivugiza, primary at Camp Kigali and Charles Lwanga. He later joined Ecole de Science de Gisenyi before he was admitted to King David Academy and later on IPRC Kicukiro for high school, which he completed at St Pius in Canada.
The late rapper relocated to Ottawa, Canada in 2017, and by the time of his death he was pursuing his studies at Algonquin College. There, Young CK lived with his mother and elder brother, Kevin Floris Kagahe.
Despite Young CK’s short time in the spotlight, his name appears to be one that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
