Local technology startups have an opportunity to grow their enterprises, thanks to Tigo tech incubator centre, think. The incubator has opened applications for second intake under its accelerator incubation programme for Africa, a statement from the telecom firm indicates.

The six month programme aims at supporting tech startups to "develop innovative digital solutions for the continent”. Deadline for submission of applications is February 21.

The $1 million (Rwf710 million) tech incubation programme was launched in May last year with the first four companies selected from 20 nations globally in October.

Rwanda’s TorQue, which delivers channel management software for wholesale distributors in the beverage and telecom sectors, was one of the pioneers of the programme.

"Building on the success of the inaugural programme, think will select five new companies through a competitive selection process,” read the statement.

Tongai Maramba, Tigo Rwanda general manager, said the first batch of entrepreneurs at the incubation centre had excelled.

"We are looking forward to meeting the next cohort of tech entrepreneurs who are leading digital innovation for Africa, and seeing them reach similar success at think”.

The programme is open to any early stage technology company, with the potential to scale operation across Africa.
