Luckman Nzeyimana, aka Lucky, is a presenter on Lemigo TV’s Celebrity Show. Aside from working with cameras, he has a passion for soccer and was once a goalkeeper at local club Esperance FC. He shared some of his style preferences with Society Magazine’s Stephen Kalimba.

What influences your style?

I don’t think much about what I am going to wear but I have to be presentable. If I am to meet a minister, or if I am to go to the field, I dress accordingly. I like t-shirts and jeans because they are neat and comfortable.

Do you have a designer?

I have dealers who call me when they have new stock. But for designer brands, I like Lacoste. I like sneakers too, especially Vans and Nike’s. When you have sneakers, you can work anywhere.

Do you go for second-hand clothes?

Yeah, in fact I like them better than new clothes. When you buy a shirt you will be the only one with it but when you buy new stuff, you will find another person wearing the same thing.

What accessories do you go for?

I like watches a lot, like Cores and Swatches. Swatches are my favourite; there are duplicates, for Rwf15000 and originals, for Rwf100,000. But people should wear a watch they like and they can afford.

What’s your fashion weakness?

I think my tummy; I have to wear tops that stretch down to my pockets. I know I have to go to the gym. But I like it too, it gets me some respect.

What styles do you think men should avoid?

Shorts and sagging pants. When you wear shorts, people will doubt you. When your pants sag they will also say you are not serious. You can be sent away even when you’re qualified.

Any fashion tips?

We should wear clothes by our own designers too. When we wear international designs all the time, that’s like copying.

What type of local designs in particular?

Kitenge, which is good for shirts, and African sandals. But if you are a grown up, like a father, you should keep away from bitenge with multiple colours.
