The annual Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament will start on February 14 at Groupe Scolaire de Butare playground in Huye District.

According to Father Celestin Rwirangira, the head teacher of Group Scolaire de Butare, the annual tournament will attract more than 16 teams and will have both women and men’s categories. Kayumba, who passed away in 2009, was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Group Scolaire de Butare; the school is now famed for producing many top volleyballers who play in national teams and local clubs.

"We want to make this tournament very competitive this year, that is the reason we have invited regional teams but it’s still too early to say who is coming,” Father Rwirangira said.

Rwanda Revenue Authority and APR won the tournament in the women and men’s categories, respectively, last year.

Rwanda Volleyball Federation is the main sponsor of the tournament.
