Derrick Shema, Guevara Che Mpazimpaka and Fred Mujemanyi, whose stage names are Fame, Prime and White Monkey, respectively, met at Lycee de Kigali and formed the Skank Nation music crew in 2012.

Driven by the desire to tell the world about Rwanda’s bitter past and its consequences to Rwandans, they set out to compose their lyrics in English and Kinyarwanda.

"We seek to provide advocacy through singing, because music speaks to the soul of the listeners and enables them to look at a situation from the perspective of the singer,” he told The New Times.

Prime said the group feels responsible for contributing toward the well being of their nation by using their talents in music.

"The main objective of the group is to give Rwandans hope through entertainment since the country looks forward to a happy future,” said Prime.

In 2013, the upcoming rappers released their debut studio album called, "The Wait Mixtape 1”, comprised of 19 singles and, it won them the hearts of so many young people. The group’s hit tracks include, "Back Home”, "Iburyasazi” and "Skank”, to name a few.

Skank Nation has performed in several concerts across the country including in secondary schools.
