Water shortage inexplicable

Editor,

Refer to Oscar Kimanuka’s article, "Conserving, recycling water is best we can do for this precious resource” (The New Times, January 16).

I was in Egypt many years back in the early 1980s and never had a problem of water in my house. Egypt was and is still in a desert. No rainfall and no lakes and rivers of course. And her water comes from the Nile for which Rwanda is one of the sources.

What amazes me is that in Rwanda—a country in the Great Lakes region of Africa—today we get intermitted water shortages in the capital. How can you explain this? Yes, we have abundant reserves of water, but it’s pathetic how we do not know how to get it to our homes.
