RWANDA Volleyball Federation (FRVB) has confirmed that they have plans to send a women’s senior national team to the upcoming CAVB Zone 5 tournament scheduled to take place from April 20-28 in Kampala, Uganda.
RWANDA Volleyball Federation (FRVB) has confirmed that they have plans to send a women’s senior national team to the upcoming CAVB Zone 5 tournament scheduled to take place from April 20-28 in Kampala, Uganda.
FRVB president Gustave Nkurunziza said, "We have informed the Ministry of Sports and Culture that we also want to send the women’s team and we hope that they provide the funds. We have been sending only the men’s team and we really hope that the women too can take part.”
The last time the senior women’s team participated in any tournament was during the 2011 Africa volleyball championships that were held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Jean Marie Nsengiyumva, the head coach back then said, "It is very important for us to send a team to Uganda because it gives the ladies confidence at an international level. We have to play against big teams so that it improves our level of volleyball. It will also improve our ranking.”
Seven countries are expected to attend the tournament including Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda as well as Rwanda with the top two qualifying for the All Africa Games scheduled for September 4-19 in Congo Brazzaville.
Rwanda will host the men’s sub-zone 1 event from May 1-6 with Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda expecting to compete for one spot to the All Africa Games.
Ethiopia will host the sub- zone 2 in Ethiopia from May 7-13 with Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia and Somalia expected to fight for the one spot.
