Rwandan boxers have decried the shortage of logistics like rings, punching bags, pads and gloves. They said this has hindered their preparations for the Africa Amateur Boxing Championship slated to take place in August in Namibia.

"Training is very difficult because basic logistics are very few. We improvise but that makes our preparations very difficult. The top administrators in the federation are not doing anything to help the sport flourish in Rwanda,” one of the boxers who preferred anonymity said.

Vic Kalisa, the acting president, acknowledges that the federation indeed has shortage of facilities adding that the boxing body which has been besieged by constant wrangles in the past is keen to put its house in order.

"There has been a void in administration, which has hampered the growth of the sport, but we hope that after election of a new committee, then there will be significant changes,” Kalisa said.

The Boxing federation says that there are currently 8 boxing clubs in the country but most of them are not active.
