Young Tigers won by 59 runs

Batting was Right Guards’ major undoing as they lost their first game of the 2008 Utexrwa Cup on Sunday.

Despite limiting Young Tigers to a relatively achievable score of 143, the club still came off second as the youngsters continued their imposing run this season by inflicting a 59-run defeat over their senior counterparts.

Young Tigers did enough to prove that their Sulfo league heroics were not a fluke when they limited Guards to a feeble score of 84 runs.

Emma Byiringiro, Right Guards’ danger-man was long gone for eight runs as Guards folded. It was new recruits Jimmy Byawaka (19) and Samson Nkurunziza (11) who saved face with some fine grafting at the crease.

André Kayitera and Eric Dusabemungu instigated Young Tigers’ win.

Kayitera who collected the man of series’ accolade in the just ended Sulfo League was in fine form with the bat as he knocked a pulsating 54 runs while Dusabemungu swept through Guards’ batting order to finish off with bowling figures of six for 14runs.

"It felt good to bowl fast today. The ball came off nicely and I’m happy about the win,” said Dusabemungu.

"But this is just the first game. We have to continue playing this like in all the other games.”

Dusabemungu’s extra bowling point took Young Tigers atop of the table standings with 5 points.

Kigali Cricket Club (KCC) is second with four points after last Sunday’s win over Challengers.

Indorwa, Challengers and Right Guards are yet to record a point.
