Rwanda will host this year’s Zone 5 Volleyball tournament, which will also act as a qualifier for the All Africa Games slated for September 4–19 in Congo-Brazzaville.
According to the National Volleyball Federation Executive Secretary Christian Hatumimana, five teams that include hosts Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi will compete in the Zone V All African Games Qualifiers in May.
"We are happy to announce that we have been awarded the rights to host the event and we expect the tournament to be successful,” Hatumimana said adding that they are now sourcing for sponsorship so that they can organise a successful tournament.
The team will start training early next month and will be under the tutelage of ex-Kenyan international Paul Bitok, who will be assisted by Kigali Volleyball Club coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva.
Meanwhile Rwanda could send athletes in eleven disciplines in the All Africa games and they are: handball, tennis, football, cycling, fencing, athletics taekwondo, indoor and beach volleyball and sports for the disabled.
