Rayon Sports vice captain Faustin Usengimana could be fined if he does not give his coach Andy Mfutila a satisfactory justification why he missed training for three weeks.

The defender was last week sent away from the club’s training base in Nyanza and told to write an official letter explaining his absence for three weeks.

The Rwandan international told Times Sport that he had been taking care of his mother whom he said was sick.

"After the match against AS Kigali on December 14, I got home and found my mother very sick, I then sent the team manager a text message that I would not be available, I also informed Fuadi Ndayisenga (team captain) and a few other players,” Usengimana said.

The 21-year-old  said he chose to inform only the team manager and some players because he could not easily find a way of writing an official letter to the club officials as he was busy caring for his mother.

 "I apologise for not communicating officially to the club and request clubs officials to pardon me,” the defender said.

Rayon Sports spokesperson Aime Emmanuel Niyomusabye said the player didn’t use official channels to request for permission.

"We have clear procedures on how players can ask for permission. They have to write an official letter and he didn’t do that,” Niyomusabye said adding that club officials are studying the case to see which appropriate action to take.

According to club rules, players who miss training without reason are fined but it is not clear how much money the defender will be fined if the club decides that.
