I would like to say that it is essential to have school going children have knowledge in the use of ICT to achieve the knowledge-based technology, aimed at in vision 2020.

However, I wonder how this is achievable when most schools do not have enough money. Schools should always show how much they have before the government allows them to run.

It is wrong to expect to run strictly with the money got from students (fees). This is where they go wrong and unfortunately, the ministry turns a blind eye.

Nonetheless, we appreciate the efforts Rwanda’s Information and Technology Authority (RITA), together with the ministry of Education have put in to include and improve ICT skills in primary and secondary education.

The One Laptop-per- Child (OLPC) project is one of great brilliance and at the same time vital. Just like in the developing countries where children are trained in ICT at kindergarten level, training the children of Rwanda in ICT by giving them laptops each, will improve educational standards.

The initiative would be perfect if we were sure that schools have computers, as to go for individuals (OLPC). I suggest that we first ensure that schools are able to teach children ICT courses and then go in for OLPC.
